The Media Development Program (MDP)

The Media Development Program (MDP) is a five-year project, funded by USAID/Egypt, to help improve the professionalism, sustainability and economic performance of the media sector.

MDP is implemented by a consortium led by Management Systems International (MSI) and International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) and started its activities in May 2006.

Based on an agreement between the Governments of Egypt (represented by the Ministry of International Cooperation ( MIC)) and the United States (represented by USAID), MDP's progress is regularly monitored by a Steering Committee co-chaired by MIC and USAID and has the membership of leading media partners.

MDP Core Objectives

* Building training and management capacity of Egyptian media schools (both print and broadcast) to promote professional development among mid-career professionals, emerging journalists and media managers.

* Improving the management and economic viability of Egyptian print and broadcast sectors through technical assistance and training.

* Strengthening the professionalism, organizational capacity and economic performance of local media with a focus on Aswan, Alexandria and Minya.

* Improving the enabling environment for a professional, impartial and economically viable media in Egypt by providing targeted assistance.
